The trait debate | the psychology of our personality

Hello lovely listeners!

Ah yes, you’ve probably all shamefully taken those personality Facebook quizzes – which snack am I? Which Friends character would I mostly likely be? Which animal am I?

As humans we all delight in knowing our personality and what clean cut box we fit into. There’s a sense of shared camaraderie with others who share the same personality and we usually may conflict with those who share opposite traits.

In this episode we divulge into different personality theories such as Type A vs. Type B, introvert vs. extrovert, the Big 5, the 16 Personality types + the Riso-Hudson Enneagram
and discuss why we like to fit into a category and where our personality comes from. We also discuss the changing nature of personalities and how our parents and guardians have a significant impact on our personalities. We explore why so many personality theories are flawed and why our often changing and evolving personalities can’t really ever fit into a clear cut neat little box.
