Frequently asked questions

IS THIS RIGHT FOR ME?

Maybe you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed with the demands of daily life or you may be experiencing a significant event or big life change. Maybe you are struggling with relationships, or maybe you just need a listening ear. We believe everything is relevant and there is never a wrong time to seek support.

Psychological support is different than speaking to friends and family, we have specific skills that offer you deeper insights and understanding as to what is happening for you, and resolutions for moving forward.

You also don’t need to be diagnosed with a mental health disorder to seek support, you may just want someone to talk to.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING MY FIRST SESSION?

It can be quite confronting seeing a psychologist or counsellor for the first time. It may feel a little awkward or uncomfortable at first, but our number one priority is to make you feel as safe and as comfortable as possible.

We might ask you questions about your life, your childhood, your current work situation, your family + relationships and your hobbies to help us get a clearer picture of how you came to be you.

We will also ask your goals for therapy and also assess whether online therapy is appropriate. Before we start we will also discuss confidentiality and consent.

You can always choose to disclose as much or as little as you want throughout the sessions- we go at your pace.

I DON'T WANT TO BE IN THERAPY FOREVER

We never keep clients in therapy longer than needed.

In fact, our goal is to empower you and provide you with the tools and strategies you can implement in your life, without the need for ongoing therapy.

Additionally, there is no obligation with any of our sessions to continue, you can let us know at any time if you’d like to pause or stop sessions.

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL OR RESCHEDULE MY APPOINTMENT?

We understand life gets busy however your commitment to therapy is important.

You can always reschedule and you will receive email reminders of your appointments, however if you choose to cancel within the 48 hour time frame of your appointment you will be charged your full session fee.

WHAT DO I NEED FOR ONLINE PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT? HOW DOES IT WORK?

For our online support, you will need a secure internet connection (we strongly  recommend a home WIFI network and connection to a high-speed internet service, such as NBN), a smart phone, laptop, desktop or tablet which offers video teleconferencing features. You may be required to download the Zoom onto your device. Once we approve your booking form + your desired time slot, your therapist will send you the link to the session, and will contact you during your time slot.

We have chosen a very secure teleconferencing system to ensure that we can be accessed by anybody in Australia. However, like any system on the internet, there may be some risk included, we will discuss this in our initial session.

DO YOU OFFER THERAPY IN-PERSON?

At the moment no, only online counselling and psychological support, however this is something we are considering in the future.

DO YOU ACCEPT REBATES?

We do accept Private Health Rebates (currently Kat + Aimee can).

However we do not have the capacity to accept Medicare Health Rebates under the Mental Health Care Plan at this time.

WHO IS ABLE TO SEE YOU GUYS?

We welcome any client from any background within Australia, however we have a client age minimum of 18 years.

HOW CAN I GET IN TOUCH WITH YOU GUYS?

You can email us at [email protected] or reach out to us via our Instagram https://www.instagram.com/thepsychcollaborative/

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ONLINE AND IN PERSON THERAPY?

Online and face-to-face therapy options allow more people to access mental health support than ever before. Whether online or in person, we will help assess whether online therapy is appropriate for your needs.

Research has shown for the most part, telepsychology services  can be just as effective than in-person, however it may not be appropriate for everyone.

Online therapy offers the ability to connect with a therapist from the comfort of your own home. Face-to-face therapy allows you to bring your mental health needs to a supportive yet neutral space.

Online therapy may require that you investigate the privacy policies on video and messaging platforms to secure your information.

If you are unsure whether online is a right fit for you, we recommend booking in a Meet + Greet to get a feel for the online world.
