Aimee Hudson
Director, Principal Clinical Psychotherapist (B. A Psych, MPsychother & Couns)
Hello! I’m Aimee and I’d like to offer you a very warm welcome!
My fundamental aim is to build a safe space for you to understand how you came to be ‘you’. I walk alongside you at your pace, helping you trace the roots of your emotional pain, understand the purpose behind your patterns, and nurture new ways of being that feel more aligned and true to who you are.
At the heart of my work is a deep curiousity about you: how your past has shaped your view of self, what your patterns are protecting, and what’s getting in the way of how you want to feel and live.
I help people understand the roots of their patterns, which often shows up as:
- People-pleasing, perfectionism, or over-functioning.
- Chronic anxiety, emotional overwhelm, or shutdown and depression.
- Difficulty with boundaries, intimacy, or asking for what you need.
- A persistent sense of dissatisfaction with self and/or relationships.
- Deeply held belief systems like: “I’m never enough”, “I’m unloveable” or “I’m a failure”.
My approach is inclusive, compassionate, relational, and trauma-informed, grounded in both the wisdom of the body and the mind. I draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Attachment Theory, and somatic (nervous system-based) therapies to help you build safety and understanding within yourself.
I can support you with:
- Trauma: Complex trauma, childhood trauma, abuse (emotional, physical, sexual), PTSD
- Emotional Regulation: Understanding and working with your nervous system, defences, and coping mechanisms
- Attachment & Relationships: Patterns of co-dependency, avoidance, love addiction, trauma bonds, and family dynamics
- Self-worth: People-pleasing, perfectionism, shame, imposter syndrome — and reconnecting to your authentic self
- Anxiety & Depression: Exploring the roots, function, and regulation of emotional distress
- Couples Counselling: From boundaries and communication to intimacy and repair.
- Grief & Loss: Navigating life transitions, heartbreak, loss of loved ones, identity shifts, and more
What about when I’m not with clients?
When I’m not with clients, I’m usually enjoying the simple things: a good cuppa, time with close friends, and sunrise beach walks with my partner, my son, and our beautiful dogs, Mowgli and Nala (who join me in the therapy room!).
My “must read” list is:
- “No bad Parts” by Richard Schwartz
- “Scattered Minds” by Gabort Mate
- “The Power of Attachment” by Diane Poole Heller
- “Anchored” by Deb Dana
- “The Dance of Anger” by Harriet Lerner
